To make sure that you select the correct entry route, you’ll need to understand the current UKVI (UK visa) categories:
The standard visa for international students undertaking a course of study at a UK university or college. This visa requires a CAS, English language proof, and financial evidence, and allows you to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full time during vacations.
The Graduate Visa is not a student visa, it’s a post-study work visa available to students who have successfully completed a UK degree. It allows graduates to stay in the UK for 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates) to work or look for work, with no sponsorship required.
For students studying an English language course of between 6 and 11 months, or any other course of up to 6 months. This visa does not allow you to work or extend your stay in the UK.
This is designed for students aged 4 to 17 who are studying at independent schools. It requires a CAS from the school and evidence of parental consent and care arrangements in the UK.
Securing your UK Student Visa means following a standard process, made up of 6 individual steps. To help you avoid delays, we’ll work with you to make sure that each stage is completed accurately before moving to the next.
Once you have accepted an unconditional offer, your university will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) — a unique 14-character reference number. Your CAS is valid for 6 months and must be used within that period to apply for your visa. Check your CAS details carefully, as errors could delay your application.
Your CAS will confirm whether you have met the English language requirement for your visa. Most universities require IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (with no band below 5.5) for undergraduate study and 6.5 for postgraduate. Accepted alternatives include TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, and Cambridge English qualifications."
You must show funds meeting the UKVI financial thresholds (see above) held continuously in your bank account for at least 28 consecutive days. The end date of this 28-day period must be within 31 days of your visa application date. Bank statements, savings account statements, or an official financial sponsorship letter from your government or institution are accepted.
Apply at gov.uk/student-visa. You will need your CAS number, passport, financial evidence, English language test results, and — for certain science, engineering, and technology courses — an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate. Applications typically take up to 3 weeks to process; priority processing (£500 extra) is available in most countries for a decision within 5 working days.
Book a biometric appointment at a UKVCAS service point in your country. Bring all original documents. You will provide fingerprints and a photograph. Some countries offer a premium lounge service for an additional fee."
If your visa is approved, you will receive a vignette (entry clearance sticker) in your passport, valid for 30 days to enter the UK. Within 10 days of arriving, collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from your nominated Post Office branch
Our team will guide you through every one of these steps to make sure your application is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
Before you submit your application, use this checklist to make sure your paperwork is "decision-ready." Your CAS number is the most important part; remember, it can only be used once for a single application.
Applying for a visa can sometimes feel overwhelming, but at AHZ, we handle all of the worst parts for you. Our British Council-trained staff give you constant support throughout the entire process, helping you navigate the UKVI system easily and stress-free.
Before you send your application, we’ll carefully check all your documents to make sure they are correct and ready to submit, helping you avoid the common mistakes that often result in visas being refused.
Your dedicated counsellor will be by your side until your BRP is safely in your hand, and should you need more support when it comes to the moving process, we’re more than happy to help.
